Shakti Yoga is a deeply feminine form of yoga that focuses on moving the energy from the sacrum up and along the spine. This creates flexibility and opens you to a larger range of movement. The practice focuses mostly on floor work, opening the hips and releases tension in the pelvis, thighs and lower back. It assists with letting go all the incredible tension that is created from sitting cross-legged, as well has possibly having worked seated at a desk for many years.
For more than a hundred years, in our western culture, women have been discouraged to be fluid with our movement, and if we look back at history… think corsets and bustles that propped us up, sharper and straighter than any straightjacket!! Even though we had the sexual revolution in the sixties, there was still a strong social and moral compass operating in the background, that has kept a lot of these old social ‘values’ and ‘controls’ in place…
And as we know, times are really changing, and there are more and more women desiring to feel sexy and fluid in their own bodies without hearing our mothers whispering in our ears… and this is where Shakti Yoga comes in… it’s a beautiful bridge from the control structures our parents and grandparents have unwittingly handed down to us, and now, we know it’s safe to unshackle ourselves from this old story…
In the safety of a small group of women, we get to move our bodies, feel the release and then sit in circle to share what may come up for us and honour each other, and all women, in the process.
New dates will be posted here when I have finalised them, so watch this space 🙂
